Xavi defends Barcelona player “The Butcher”

Xavi Hernandez once again defended his player, whose style of play was criticized, in the press conference prior to the Barcelona-Real Madrid match in the La Liga Clasico to be played at Spotify’s Camp Nou on Sunday, March 19.

Barcelona occupies the top of the La Liga standings with 65 points, 9 points behind its closest pursuers, Real Madrid, who are in second place, and Xavi hopes to win tomorrow to widen the difference to 12 points.

We are talking about Gavi who was catapulted into the world of football due to his combination of talent and strength. The young Barcelona midfielder watched how some sectors criticized him and even went as far as accusing him of playing with a commando, especially when he wears the Blaugrana shirt and not when he wears the national team shirt.

Xavi was asked if these criticisms of Javi contradicted the defense of Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior by the same sectors, despite his usual rudeness towards opponents, referees and fans.

And Xavi responded, saying: “The truth is that it has been days since I saw them say something like that,” referring to the closeness of the Clasico. “They said he is a butcher … It is amazing, but I know where these criticisms come from.”

“What we do is protect the player, we ask him to focus, nothing else,” Xavi added. Regarding Gavi’s playing style, Xavi said the midfielder “does his best on the field and fights hard, but never goes in bad faith”.
