Xavi Hernandez settled the controversy over the arrangement of the players charged with taking penalty kicks during the matches, after the quarrel that broke out between Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres over paying the penalty kick that the referee awarded in favor of Barcelona yesterday, Sunday, against Valencia.
Barcelona achieved a meager victory over its guest, Valencia, with a clean goal, at Camp Nou, in the matches of the twenty-fourth round of the Spanish Premier League competitions.
The match witnessed the expulsion of Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo after he prevented the Valencia striker from being alone with T Steigen’s goal, in addition to a missed penalty kick from Ferran Torres, while Ravenha was the only scorer.
“We suffered a lot,” said Xavi, who was watching the match from a room in the stands due to his stopping the accumulation of cards. We had many chances to score the second goal, but this has happened to us too many times and we have to put it right. You can’t finish games with a score like this when we have so many chances. We have to learn to finish matches better.”
Regarding the expulsion of Ronald Araujo, the Catalan coach said: “We must be honest, it is a clear and correct expulsion. It’s a shame, he’s the last player, it’s a long ball that we couldn’t clear well.”
Regarding the controversy after Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres quarreled over the penalty kick, Xavi said: “There is an arrangement for the shooters. We pass it on to the players. Then there are changes that may happen, Kesseh came on as a substitute and he is also a good penalty kick player. But Ferran was at the top of the list.”
And he concluded: “It is true that if it happens in a friendly and positive way and they talk about it, they can change. But there is a list, and a definite order. However, it is good for a player to want to take a penalty kick, it shows desire and ambition.
