Former FC Barcelona coach and iconic captain Pep Guardiola has told the press that he would return to Barcelona if they contacted him.
In the press conference before Arsenal’s match with Manchester City, Guardiola spoke to the press and was asked about Arteta’s departure from his coaching staff when he was his assistant. Guardiola confirmed that he fully understood Arteta’s decision.
Pep said: “When Arteta was my assistant at City, he celebrated all the goals we scored madly except for the goals against Arsenal. He loved Arsenal. It’s like my relationship with Barcelona. If I’m an assistant coach and Barcelona calls me, I’ll go, it’s my team.”
The student, Arteta, surpasses his teacher, Guardiola, this season, as Arsenal leads the English Premier League standings, with 50 points, achieved from 19 matches, while Manchester City ranks second, with 45 points, achieved from 20 matches.
Guardiola has a contract with City until 2025, and with Xavi Hernandez at the helm, it seems unlikely he will return to Barcelona in the near future. It remains unlikely that he will ever return as a coach, unless the Blaugrana are in desperate trouble.
